Manuele, Dr. Charles Arthur

Webster: Died peacefully at home on March 30, 2013 just two days after his 100th birthday which was celebrated by his extended family and friends. Dr. Manuele was born in LeRoy, NY on March 28, 1913 to Orazio (Frank) Manuele and Jenny Mondo Caccamise. For over fifty years Dr.
Manuele faithfully served several generations of the Rochester community as a family physician.

He attended East High School and the University of Rochester and received his medical education at St. Louis University in St. Louis, MO. He completed his medical internship at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester. Immediately following his internship he entered the United States Army as a medical officer serving for five years from 1941 to 1946. Captain Manuele served in the 119th Infantry in the European Theatre moving from Iceland to Greenland, to England, France and Germany providing critical medical help to the troops as the front lines moved eastward.

During his lengthy medical practice he was an attending physician at St. Mary’s Hospital and provided medical services in a variety of settings including the US Coast Guard, US Immigration Services, Monroe County Dept. of Social Services and the Rochester City School District.

He was predeceased by his wife Ruth Marie Manuele (Spuck), the mother of his four daughters, and by his second wife and companion Ruth Francis Manuele (Jarvis). He is survived by his four daughters, Dr. Caroline Manuele Adkins and her husbard Dr. Winthrop Adkins (Greenwich, CT], Ruth Hall Squires (Stamford, CT), Margaret Manuele (Durham, NC] and Susan Manuele (Rochester, NY). He is also survived by his granddaughter, Diana Hall Bolz and her husband Commander Michael Bolz and their children, his great-grandchildren, Liam Michael Bolz and Sophia Catherine Bolz.

His primary focus beyond his medical practice was his immediate and extended family that he cared for, provided nurturing advice and was always helpful in times of need. He was a kind, generous, thoughtful man with great empathy for his family and all his patients. He was also an educator who patiently helped people understand the complex medical issues they faced.

He was also predeceased by his nine siblings, Joseph, Virginia, Samuel, Anthony, Louis, Josephine, Vincent, Arthur and Frank and his son-in-law, William Hall. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Rose Manuele,  his many nieces and nephews, including James and Sharon Manuele, Jeanne Toal, Gail and James Moynihan, Lisa Manuele, Louis Manuele, John and Carol Manuele, Robert and Mary Ellen Manuele, Ricky and Ezita Manuele, Rebecca and Joseph Izzo, Mary Miglore and Virginia Miglore.

He was lovingly looked after by his wonderful caregivers. The family offer special thanks to his current caregivers, Ms. Kim LeFrois, Ms. Patty O’Connor, Ms. Candice Abbott, Ms. Carol Pagliuso, Ms. Michele Michlin and thanks also to other caregivers in past years.
