 Kenneth Stafford passed away at the age of 85.
Interment will be at Sampson Veterans Memorial Cemetery (6632 Route 96A, Romulus, NY 14541) 11:00 a.m., on Monday, (November 20, 2017). No prior calling hours.
 
Ken was born in Tarrytown, N.Y., graduated from the local high school. He was an outstanding runner on the school track team competing in the N.Y. State Championships. Upon graduation he entered the U.S Marines Corps, serving four years. After being discharged, Ken was accepted into the NYS Police Academy where he became an official trooper in 1952. Among his early duties he was assigned to Albany as a member of the State Police security for then Governor W. Averell Harriman and his family. Rising through the ranks he became the initial First Sergeant of the newly opened Troop E Barracks in Canandaigua in 1967, and remained until retirement in 1986, with thirty four years of service.
 
During his career, he was active in various service organizations such as the Freemasons, Shriners and American Legion. He served two terms as the Supervisor for the Town of Varick and remained active for many years in the local politics. 
 
 An avid golfer, he loved playing the local courses. He also enjoyed traveling in his boat, often into Canada.
 
He retired to his home on Seneca Lake and spent his last years with his beloved cat “Spook.” During these last years, Ken was provided outstanding home care by a group of extremely dedicated caregivers organized by long time friend Cindy Lorenzetti. The group consisting of Phyllis Tillman, Mike Reilly, Cindy Lapp, Regina O’Brian, Sarah Smaldone and Susan Panna were by his side daily, providing comfort, care and friendship. Rich Rose long time friend became his daily luncheon partner. Many friends and neighbors also providing assistance when needed. Notable among those friends Jane and Jerry Drayer provided assistance in caring for the aging cat of the house “Spook” and running errands.
 
Ken is survived by his son Kenneth of Maine and Lori of Florida.
