Pound, Richard James “R.J.”
Richard J. “R.J.” Pound died unexpectedly on August 4th, in West Chester, Pennsylvania at the age of 21. He was born on July 24th, 1996 in Rochester, N.Y.
He leaves behind his parents, Rick and Angelina (Pellegrino) Pound, sisters Alexandra and Isabella Pound, all of Pittsford, grandparents, Rocco and Debbie Pellegrino of Batavia, Robert and Jane Pound of Watertown and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
R.J. graduated from Pittsford Mendon High School, where he played football, hockey, and lacrosse. He attended John Carroll University and Monroe Community College.
He was a kind, generous, and loving soul who was most content outdoors and in nature. He recently hiked the Appalachian Trail. R.J. was a free spirit who sought adventure at every opportunity. He marched to the beat of his own drum, always questioning why things are the way they are. He had an infectious smile and people, especially children, were drawn to him. R.J. loved his young cousins, and was adored by those who knew him. He accepted people at face value, and was protective of his friends. He spent several summers as a counselor at YMCA Camp Arrowhead. As a child, R.J. read all of the Harry Potter books, and he enjoyed James Patterson novels as a young adult. He was interested in history and wars, as well. R.J. loved all genres of music, and could quote the lyrics of any song. He had a great memory for facts and was always comfortable engaging in conversation.
Calling hours will be on Thursday, August 10th from 4-7 PM at Richard H. Keenan Funeral Home, 7501 Pittsford Palmyra Road, Fairport, N.Y. A mass of Christian burial will be at 2 PM on Friday August 11th at the Church of the Transfiguration, 50 West Bloomfield Road, Pittsford.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in R.J.’s name to Golisano Children’s Hospital at the University of Rochester Medical Center, where he spent 10 days as an infant.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss.
I will always remember RJ’s ability to make everyone in the room smile. We worked at Camp Arrowhead together, and it was always a joy when he was assigned my co- counselor. He was every kid’s favorite counselor, and knew how to make the darkest and stormiest days the most magical. I’ll never forget your kind heart. Rest easy, RJ. You’re at peace now
sorry I cant be there to consol you. just thinkof all the happy times. I have walked in your shoes nothing worse then losing a child. remember the day when he was a little over a year old and he droped the keyes on the car floor and jane and everyone tried to open the car and he thought that was funny I will never forget it. love you all.

I’m so sorry you all are going through this. Although you grieve please find comfort for your hearts in verses like Isaiah 25:8 where it says that God “will swallow up death forever, and will wipe the tears from all faces.” and John 5:28,29 where it says there will be a resurrection. Remembering those words has helped my husband and I deal with recent tragedies in our family. My sincere sympathies go out to you.
