Fairport: Formerly of Savannah, GA. October 26, 2017 at age 85. Predeceased by wife, Gertrud. Survived by son, Joseph J. (LeeAnn) Lagas; 5 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Joseph was a retired LTC in the US Army who served during the Vietnam Conflict.
Service will be held at a future date at Arlington National Cemetery.

 

Joseph’s Biography

Joseph V Lagas passed away at Fairport Baptist Home on Thursday, October 26, 2017 at the age of 85. He was born in 1932 in Rochester, NY and raised in Pittsford. Joseph retired as a Lieutenant Colonel from the United States Army after 27 years of service. He was stationed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma for the majority of his career but also served a number of years at the Pentagon and Fort Stewart, Georgia. During his military career, he had multiple deployments to the Vietnam conflict. Joseph received numerous honors while serving our country including: Bronze Star, Legion of Merit Medal, Distinguished Service Medal and Air Medal. His family is grateful for his honorable service and sacrifice to the United States of America.
Joseph is predeceased by his wife, Gertrud, parents, Joseph and Florence Lagas, and six siblings: Bob (Lucille), Paul (Karen) Lagas, Mary Rentze, Caroline (Les) Pisarek, Suzanne (Bill) Brahm, and Mercedes (Roger) Butler. He is survived by his son Joseph J (LeeAnn) Lagas, five grandchildren: Heather (Matt) Hoad, Tamara Miller, Joe (Whitney) Lagas, Julia (Kevin) Cummings and Jason Miller, and seven great grandchildren: Mackenzie Hoad, Avery Cummings, Jayden and Makayla Hoad, Eric Davis, Madelyn and Harper Cummings.
He will be remembered during mass on November 11, 2017 at 9am at St. Louis Roman Catholic Church on 64 South Main Street in Pittsford.
