Holt, Kathleen H. (Knapp)
Victor: Deceased May 13, 2013 after a brief illness. Kathy was born in Bradford, Pennsylvania. She attended Lycoming College and eamed her B.S. in Business from SUNY Brockport and her M.S. in Management from Nazareth College of Rochester, NY. She retired from Xerox Corporation after a long and successful career. Kathy was actively involved in a wide range of philanthropic causes with her main interest being to support the legacy of her late husband, Chip. The children of the Boys & Girls Club of Rochester were her primary focus.
In addition she supported various police agencies with K9 units such as the Monroe County Sheriffs Department. K9 Chip was the first dog donated by Kathy who was known for her love of these animals. She was a Trustee on the Board of The Rochester Museum & Science Center, the Boys & Girls Club of Rochester and The Chip Holt Nature Center as well as a member of The Junior League of Rochester.
Kathy had a love and appreciation for the beauty of nature and the outdoors, in panicular the Adirondack Mountains and Lake Ontario. She maintained homes in those regions until her death.
Kathy is predeceased by her parents Jack L and Grace A. Knapp and the love of her life, husband Charles P. (Chip) Holt. She is survived by her brother H. William Knapp, sister-in-law Suzanne L Knapp, nephews Justin and Christopher Knapp and Larry D. ‘Chip‘ King, Jr., a dear friend whom she loved as a son.
A gathering to remember and honor Kathy will be held at the Richard H. Keenan Funeral Home, 7501 Pittsford Palmyra Road in Fairport on Friday, June 7, from 4:00 pm to 7:00pm. A prayer service will be held at the Funeral Home on Saturday, June 8 at 11:00 am. A celebration of Kathy’s life will be held after the service – location TBA. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Boys & Girls Clubs of Rochester, 500 Genesee Street, 14611 may be made in Kathy’s memory.

To the family and friends of Kathleen Holt,
My deepest sympathies to all of you. As I was flipping through the pages of the newspaper today, Kathy’s obituary caught my eye and not because we were dear friends, neighbors, or even ‘friends of friends’. We were the remotest of acquaintances. In fact, I may have shared a mere two minutes of conversation with her while standing in the check out line at Wegmans four years ago. Those brief two minutes left such an impression on me that I knew I would never forget such an amazing woman. I was in line ahead of her with my six year old daughter. I was almost completely checked out when I realized I did not have my wallet with me. (not even in the car) I gasped as the sudden feeling of dread washed over me…. “oh no – I have to leave all these groceries and come back!?!” Kathy (Kathleen as her business card read) was behind me. She leaned forward and handed her credit card to the cashier and said to put it on her card. Needless to say I was astonished at this rare and generous gesture of goodwill. Despite my initial refusal to accept her offer, she insisted and I eventually accepted. I was extremely grateful and assured her I would send her a check right away. She gave me her “business” card and told me a little bit about her life. I too was a former Xerox employee (before my three kids were born) and Chip Holt was a well-known name. She explained the donation of the K9 dog and how she loved her many philanthropic endeavors. As soon as I got home, I told my husband the story and got the check into the mail. He, too, was incredulous. I will always remember Kathleen’s act of kindness and generosity. As we look around at the people who walk among us, we can only hope we can touch the life of someone else as Kathleen did to me. I am sure I am not the only person to have been so fortunate to have met her this way. Kathleen has left this world a better place. May she rest in peace.
