Aunt Joanne was the greatest female role model – a spitfire of a gal – said what she thought – laughter followed her. Raised 6 kids as a stay-at-home Mom, working with Uncle Dick at the same time – She took over as a substitute “mom” when my mom took ill in Miami when I was 10 -and was so homesick for my mother – she stepped in for weeks and took care of us 5 kids, plus her own. She taught me a lot about acceptance. “Don’t worry so much – you’ll eat a peck of dirt before you die anyway!” Mary Sue Hoffend and I were flower girls in her wedding – I still have the little green bracelet she gave us then!

I too have many fond memories of Aunt Joanne. A spitfire she definitely was; add a bit of pepper, a quick sense of Irish humor and a woman that wasn’t afraid to speak her mind – that was out Aunt Joanne. All those summer weekends at the lake when she & my mom would sit and talk & laugh. My first memory of her is the summer evening when she & Uncle Dick showed up on Elmerston Road to take my brother Bob, cousins Judy, Nancy & Donny to the rodeo. I wax about 5 years old so they were either engaged or newly married. At the end of the night they bought the boys cap pistols & the girls kewpie dolls. Years later when I received my Masters Degree she gave me my first bottle of Chanel #5 telling me that every young woman deserved an expensive bottle of perfume. Oh, the reunion that’s taking place in heaven right now! I can see the “girls” all laughing while my dad sits there and just smiles….
