Farrell, Carol Lynn (Covert)

Victor – After a courageous battle with cancer, Carol Lynn Farrell, surrounded by her loving family, passed peacefully at home at the age of 78 on October 21, 2019. Carol attended West High School, Geneseo State College, and Eastman Dental in Rochester. She was a member of the Alpha Clio Sorority since her days at Geneseo. Carol gave back to the community, teaching dental health to students in the county of Monroe for ten years. She took time off to raise her children and later in her career she worked in private practice as a dental hygienist in Webster. In her final working years she traveled New York State as a sales rep visiting colleges. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother.

Carol met the love of her life at Geneseo College her freshman year. She married Rob three years later and they started their family three years after that.  Family was the center of her life. She supported her children and husband with great zeal. Carol enjoyed bridge, golf, volunteering, reading, gardening, homemaking, walking the dogs on the Victor trails and always Zitka Island, the family cottage at Oak Point on the St. Lawrence River. For the past 60 years continuing to this year, Carol traveled to the family cottages in the Thousand Islands. She shared her love of the St. Lawrence River with her family and friends; Carol could unhook a fish, run an outboard motor or moor a boat in a bad storm. She and Rob taught their children cottage life and the value of work and chores. You might find her playing cards, reading, doing puzzles, cooking, and just enjoying river time. At home, she loved baking, cooking, working in the yard and going shopping with “her girls.”

Holidays were always special and Carol loved hosting the festive family dinners. Lunching with her Clio sisters was always a treat. Her bridge club has been together for over 50 years. Traveling brought her joy, whether to be with family and friends in Florida or visiting new places. Rob and Carol explored the western states together several times and came back with many cherished memories.

Over six years ago Carol was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, a cancer of the blood. Together with family, Carol waged a tremendous battle against an unrelenting foe. She fought ever hard, with Rob and the family always at her side, but eventually lost her battle to this terrible disease. Recently, many profound acts of love, concern, and encouragement continually lifted Carol’s spirits. Her grace, warmth, courage and love modeled her life.

Pre-deceased by her mother, Marie Covert Walters, and her fathers, Milton Covert and William Walters, she is survived by her husband of 57 years, Robert; children Jeffrey (Susan), Kevin (Kelly), Timothy (Amy); grandchildren Ryan, Jack, June and Paige; sister Nancy (George) Walton; brother, Dan (Candy) Walters; brother-in-law Jim (Leah) Farrell; brother-in-law Stephen Farrell; many wonderful nieces and nephews; many dear friends; and five grand-dogs.

Carol and the family were so grateful for the loving care provided by the staff at Wilmot Cancer Center. Special thanks go out to everyone working and volunteering in the Infusion Department.

Friends are invited to join the family on Saturday, October 26th at the Richard H. Keenan Funeral Home, 7501 Pittsford-Palmyra Road, Fairport, NY with visitation from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM.  A memorial service will be held immediately following calling hours at the same location.

Please consider, in lieu of flowers, making a contribution in Carol’s memory to Lollipop Farm, 99 Victor Road, Fairport, NY.  (Carol’s dad, Dr. Milton Covert D.V.M., from the Humane Society, was a “guiding light” in the eventual development of the Lollipop Farm facility.)

When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure.”  You are our treasure, Carol.
