Ed attended Ithaca College and earned his physical education degree. While attending Ithaca he was a three-year letter winner in football and baseball. He played in the 1962 College World Series and he and his team were inducted to the Ithaca College Hall of Fame – 2013.

After college Ed was a physical education teacher and coach for 31 years, primarily for Pittsford Central Schools. He is most accomplished in coaching football and wrestling. He coached wrestling for 25 years in Pittsford. In those years he mentored multiple Section V Champions, as well as a NYSPHSAA State Champion in 1969.

Ed also coached Section V Football for 33 years. He was defensive coordinator for three straight Section V Championships for Mendon in 1980-1981-1982. In 1981 he was a coach of Mendon’s undefeated team, 10-0. His overall record as a defensive coordinator is 125-93-12. In 2015 he was inducted into the Section V Football Hall of Fame and Pittsford Schools Athletic Hall of Fame.

Beyond his many accomplishments as a teacher and coach, Ed was above all a dedicated and loving husband, father, and grandfather. Family and friends always came first. With his friends and family, he loved to camp, bike, play golf (he owned five putters, none of them worked), and kick butt in corn hole. While Ed was not known for his internet/technology skills and refused to succumb to the cell phone era, he was an amazing wood worker that created many beautiful pieces of furniture that will be treasured forever. Ed was a good man through and through, he had a positive impact on countless lives, he will be missed dearly.

Coach Farquhar was a wonderful influence on my life. A down to earth guy that cared deeply about his players. It was really special to be part of those championship teams.

He was such a kind man who always welcomed us with enthusiasm and a smile. We have him on our wedding video giving Tim a high five when we walked in to the reception. It makes us smile every time. Our love to all of you.

Hearing of Coach Farquhar’s passing really saddened me. He was my wrestling coach when I was a freshman so many years ago. He taught and instilled in me an indelible sense of dedication, discipline and pride for which I am forever grateful.

As I sit here and reflect on Ed passing I remember the many friendly greetings and conversations over our years in Pittsford. Eddie always had a shy but warm smile and a soft spoken and reassuring voice. He was truly a gentleman, a scholar, and an athlete. Donna, Kelly, Kim, and Chrissy may your many wonderful times with Eddie and memories of happiness bring you comfort. You are in our thoughts and prayers. Jim and Kathy Miles

My deepest sympathy to the friends and family of Eddie Farquhar. We were high school teammates. He pitched and I was his catcher on the baseball team. We also were part of the Championship Basketball team at Pleasantville High School. He was terrific and thanks to him we both got to go to and graduate from Ithaca College. Most recently at a team reunion he kicked my butt by shooting a smooth 77!
RIP Eddie, you will be missed but never forgotten!

As a new teacher with no summer income (or common sense) Ed took me onto his paint crew so I could feed myself and my family over the summer. I will never forget the years I spent on Fast Eddie’s crew. Ed did the high ladder work, Terry Snyder in the middle, and me on the ground (nickname gorilla as I trampled the landscape) I can still see him slapping that oil paint shaking the ladder on the many houses we painted. When Ed would take august to go to his cape cod “vaca” he always made sure that I had work. I will always be thankful for his help and Donna for the PB & J sandwiches she made me, as I usually got up too late to make anything, haha. I was so bad Ed would charge me $5 a week to feed me. God Bless. Rest in Peace.

I taught with Ed for many years at the Pittsford Middle School and I enjoyed every minute. I never quite knew when he was kidding or serious. I thought he had a “QUIRKLY” (A GOOD THINKG) personality . I am so sorry to hear I will never see him again.

I was profoundly saddened by the news of Ed’s passing. We were colleagues in Pittsford and friends for over 30 years. He joined me in coaching the Pittsford High School varsity football team when John Ordiway, 34, passed away on the morning of the first practice in August, 1968. Ed’s quiet manner, endless patience, reassuring confidence, and dedication to his players helped to ease a difficult transition for us all. My sincerest sympathies go out to Donna and all of Ed’s family.
